Hi, Unfortunately yes, males are already incredibly hard to get to species. You have to dissect the specimen and look at the structures of the internal genitalia. Luckily for males there have been some studies on the aedagal structures so if it would be a male than it would have been possible but I am afraid female specimens have been deemed impossible to determine to species level. Try to catch copulas so you know for certain that the female and male belong to the same species, maybe in the future the Dasypogon mystery can be solved. In this publication published this spring https://www.mapre...a.5230.3.6, the genitalia of the females of two species are illustrated so I think these should be the differences you should look for. But then again, for a lot of species, the internal structures of the female genitalial stucture is unknown, at least so far I know. Hopefully this satisfies your answer, Best, Jonne |
