Follow-up to other post, to see if this shows the femur coloration necessary for triple-checking?

Observed Reykjavik 22nd May 2023

Presumed to be S.torvus as with the other... but markings noted as being irregular

Correctly showing femur 3 basal 3/4 black?
( not sure quite what the adpressed hairs look like or if they should be visible )

Clearly ¾ - the alternative, S. vitripennis, has only black.
And to be honest, I also have never seen the adpressed hairs on my photos... In my opinion - based on van Veen's key - your fly is S. torvus!
Greetings, Eric Kloeckner

Repeating what I stated on the parallel thread for clarity :

...other observations of hoverflies in Iceland have been noted as being dark on iNaturalist. When I raised this with Erling Olafsson at the National Institute here, he said it was very typical for Icelandic specimens that they would be darker than their continental equivalents.

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
