Trichocera sp in copula : H?ron (Belgium) on January 22 2008.
Is there any way to go to species level with those pictures ?
TIA

Well, I think this time you were lucky to get a pair of rather good-looking winter gnats Smile And I am almost sure it is Trichocera (Saltrichocera) regelationis - rather visible darkened areas on several veins, female ovipositor fiting the typical one and some other features confirm my guess.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I noticed that in the specimen I posted earlier, the femurs were distinctly darker (almost black, in fact) than the rest of the legs.
It is not the case, it seems, with these ones.
Do you think this is enough of a criteria to state that the earlier species is NOT T. regelationis ?
Cheers
Philippe
