Hi all! Can't find any difference to the fly on dipdip's pic of Chrysotoxum intermedium in the gallery. But, empirically, that doesn't mean too much... According to Kormann C. intermedium should only be around in May and June, but my find is from today, so something might be wrong with it. Approx. 13-15 mm 13.8.2022; Germany; Upper Bavaria; Chiemgau Alps; valley of "Kleiner Wappbach" near Reit im Winkl; about 900 m asl; coordinates 47.69287, 12.54602 Rupert Huber attached the following image:  [169.67Kb] Best greetings Rupert |

I wished we had a straight look at the antenna to exactly estimate the length ratio of segment 3 to 1+2. A good lateral look at the genitals of the male would also be helpful. But I think we see enough to apply the key either in van Veen's Hoverflies of Northwest Europe (https://books.goo...&hl=de) or in https://zoologica..._et_al.pdf. I get to C. intermedium, too. I took photos of a male in the Black Forest foothills on 22 July, so also a bit late! Regards, Sundew |

Many thanks Sundew! I have yet this rather fuzzy picture, on which its left antenna should be taken not too far from right angle, showing it to be clearly longer than the sum of the others. So apparently a late one.
