Hi All This fly appeared from nowhere and started featsing on the very small black flies that were all over this small thistle. I noticed the bright red spot(?) on the scutellum. But I have no idea whether this is some sort of parasite or infection etc? If anyone has an idea please let me know. Could someone also ID the fly please? The photo you took earlier is a male. Females are not so hairy, and usually dull green in colour.
