Hello, everyone,

I photographed this hoverfly on July 6th in D, BW, Southern Black Forest (980 m). I estimate the size at 12 to 13 mm. Can you identify it?

Greetings Siggi

Hi Siggi, I think it's C. vernale:
thin yellow bands on tergites
antennae: segment 3 < 1+2
femora: base of 1 & 2 black? if not: C. festivum
(Fotogids Zweefvliegen, André Schulten)

Hi Eric,

thank you for your explanation. The picture is bad, I know. But you can still see that the femora aren't really black at the base. When I look at pictures of C. vernale, the base of the femora is clearly black. I think, in this case there is probably no certain determination.

Greetings Siggi
