Hello,

I have learned, that E. pertinax is the only Eristalis species with yellow fore tarsi - and the the males have a rather conical abdomen. This male from yesterday at a hedge (northwest Germany) has light fore tarsi, but a an oval abdomen.

The spring males shown in Steven Falk's collection (https://www.flick...771179127/) look quite similar! Maybe yours is just retracting the abdomen a bit.
Best wishes, Sundew

Thanks, Sundew! I also saw no other possibility.
Best regards,
Jürgen
