Fly with a striking metallic blue-green sheen found half dead floating on a water barrel, Mechernich (Germany), on 1 August 2021. Length: about 10 mm. Is it Chloromyia formosa (female)? Thank you very much for checking the ID.

Hi Jan,
thanks a lot for correcting the ID. I had initially considered Microchrysa polita, but had discarded this option too early because of the size. But the fly I found is actually smaller than I remembered – as one of the pictures not included here proves by providing a size comparison. Anyway, the clear wings alone should have sufficed … So it’s Microchrysa polita (female).
