Hi there. I am trying to identify this fly and a friend suggested Nyctia lugubris as a possibility.
I will appreciate confirmation or any comments.
Thanks a lot in advance

On Kleinia neriifolia,
Lanzarote, Canary Island.

Hi mpergil, a male Nyctia is correct, but I cannot see a petiole at R5.
If there's no petiole it's Nyctia haltera - but if there's a petiole it can be both as Nyctia haltera in the Mediterranean population can have it, too.
Greetings, Eric Kloeckner

Thanks a lot Eric. So kind.
Very helpful comments. I have this photo also, but It is not clear either.
Anyway in the Canary Is. the species registered is N lugubris, so probably it will be that.
Thank a lot for your help!
Regards,
Monica

The species described by Verves are troublesome from an external, point of view, but obvious when gentalia are studied (in my experience)
