 Trichoceridae? from Romania

Hi, collected couple of days ago (1.December.2007) this tipulid (or limonid?). very small, at least on what i see normally, around ~4mm body length. also the antennae are very long maybe is helpful to ID this one. two photos of the mounted specimen, cosmln [EDIT]: title changed cosmln attached the following image:  [70.75Kb] Edited by cosmln on 06-12-2007 22:07 |

Well, this is really a winter gnat (Trichoceridae). There are now 16 species know from Romania according to this publication: Ujvarosi, L., Krzeminska, E. 2002. "New data on Trichoceridae (Diptera) from Romania. Entomologica Romanica 7: 63-66. Usually preparations of genitaliae are needed to tell the species for sure, especially dealing with females, as is this case  I could only say that your species looks more like Trichocera (Salrichocera) montium or Trichocera (Saltrichocera) regelationis, although other species are also possible |

No spots on the wings. |

hmmm.. the photo is very clear and it is possible to have 2 spots, so T. regelationis is a possibility indeed.. |
