Tried to raise a Sciomyzid found in a snail shell - but something had found the larva before me... Would like to know if a further ID is possible (also of the fly pupa) Cheers, Lorin Font Color All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated. My Diptera observations (and other living forms) can be found here, and corrections or comments over there would also be appreciated. |

You can start in Ichneumonidae

Based on the joined hind spiracle of the larva/pupa I'm quite sure that this is a syrphid and not a sciomyzid. Regards Xylo |

It might actually be a syrphid, however, I'd like to see a photo of Trypetoptera punctulata pupa, if only for comparison. Didn't find a good one in the web so far

You'll need an expert, but in Diplazontinae, all confirmed host records are Syrphidae. With a specimen, you can give it a try with the revision of Western Palaearctic spp. (Klopfstein, 2014 - Zootaxa 3801 (1): 001-143)
